A Digital Partner Checklist for Banks and Financial Institutions
What banking and financial services leaders in Turkey and the Gulf should look for when selecting a partner for regulated, enterprise-scale digital platforms.
Banking and financial services carry a different risk profile than almost any other digital project. A consumer app that ships a bug is an inconvenience; a banking platform that mishandles authentication, data residency or an SSO integration is a regulatory incident. Selecting a digital partner for this sector starts from a different set of questions than a typical corporate website engagement.
Compliance fluency comes first. Your partner should already understand KVKK and GDPR data handling requirements, Active Directory and SSO integration patterns, and the audit trails regulators expect. This is not something to teach a partner mid-project — ask for evidence of prior work inside a bank's technology standards, not just a portfolio of visually polished interfaces.
Look for proof of consolidation, not just creation. Much of the real work in banking digital transformation is unifying fragmented internal systems — performance evaluation tools, HR platforms, career and competency systems — into a single, role-based experience. When we consolidated five siloed platforms into one integrated portal for Garanti BBVA's 20,000+ employees, the hardest problems were architectural and organisational, not visual.
Security and access control need to be first-class design constraints, not a final review step. Role-based access, SSO, and granular permission models should shape the information architecture from day one — retrofitting security into a finished design is where banking projects most often go over budget and over schedule.
Ask how the partner measures success after launch. A banking platform is judged over years, not at the go-live demo. SLA-backed managed services, ongoing security audits, and a plan for how the platform evolves as regulations and internal systems change matter as much as the initial build.
Finally, weigh longevity and reference depth in regulated sectors specifically. A studio's total project count matters less than its track record inside banking, insurance or other regulated industries — ask which specific institutions they've built for, what the engagement looked like, and whether the relationship continued after launch.
